One week to go...

So let me introduce us. Aaron and I (Clifton) are old friends, we grew up together in Australia before I moved out to India in 2004 to run an orphanage. Since then we have stayed pretty close, best man's at each others weddings and been on a few adventures in between. Aaron is an outdoorsman (guiding, trekking, rockclimbing... etc.) and I run the administration of a small private orphanage in India called The Good Shepherd Agricultural Mission.

Aaron and I during a trip in Rajesthan in 2005

Our hope is that this blog will provide a few additional insights into the Three Passes Trek and not only document our trip a little and provide a reference/help to other trekkers but also to give our families at home something to look at while we are away.

We did a lot of research over the last few months leading up to the trip (via the net mostly) and we are pretty confident that we are ready (though you never know what weather factor the weather is going to play). There is a point (the Cho La Pass) that we are a little nervous about hitting solo. We might look into a guide for just that specific part... going to play it by ear when we hit Khatmandu.

I am heading into Nepal with very little gear of my own... Aaron got me a new pair of Zamberlan boots from Australia along with some socks. Apart from that I just have random bits and pieces from all around the place and a pretty decent 45L pack. Aaron will be sporting a massive 135L pack so he will carry our big camera and the medkit (yep, he's going to be my Sherpa). Planning on working out a sleeping bag when I hit Khatmandu (thinking I will look at buying but might even consider renting). Not sure about icepicks and crampons... so many mixed reports about whether we will even need them or not (again mostly for Cho La Pass).

This is the basic outline of our trip:

Here are a few that I stole from around the internet... gives an idea of what we are heading into:
