Our rest day in Namchee really turned out to be exactly that. The weather was still terrible so we just bunkered down in our room and slept (which was good for Aaron cause he was still unwell). We had hoped to go for an acclimatisation walk up to a monastery but those hopes didn't pan out because of the constant heavy rainfall.
About midday the rain lightened up long enough for us to pay a visit to the Everest Bakery where we moved away from our regular Dhal Soup and forked out for a pizza and a chicken sizzler. It was a nice little treat but set us back a good $12.
We wandered the streets a little, caught a free movie about the difficulty of Sherpa's lives (which was really eye opening) and then suddenly just before 5pm the rain stopped and we had a great chance to check out Namchee properly. The shops were loaded with trekking gear as one might imagine, much of it questionable quality... There was also a multitude of shops selling necklaces, knick-knacks and over priced prayer flags.
For a while we had a beautiful view of the snowy peaks around Namchee which was just awesome. A heavy mist started to set in around 5:40pm so we quickly scoped out the road to Tengboche that we will be taking tomorrow morning and headed back to our accomodation.
Our rooms are very simple and with a little bit of Indian ingenuity I hooked my charger into our light bulb and was able to charge up my phone for free (it would otherwise cost 200 rupees for one hour if I did it out in the street).
We are hoping the rain is now over but every weather report is saying we will still have it for another 4-5 more days. Who knows...
5.5hr trek to Tengboche in the morning, we are hoping for an early start.
Assa is smiling!
